WFBPWFBPThe Partnership is an industry led group that includes businesses involved in the following areas: • Planting, management and harvesting of forest products • Transport and forest products • Sawmilling • Timber composites • Timber engineering • Board manufacture • Pulp and paper • Wood energy • Bio-fuels • Joinery • Furniture, timber framed housing • Timber importing and timber distribution • Craft businesses • Other wood related businesses Objectives The Partnership's objectives are: 1. to ensure that Welsh wood based industries are competitive with the best in the world 2. to expand and develop the market for higher value products and services 3. to encourage a wood using culture in Wales and the UK so that wood becomes the first choice of customers 4. to build an innovative industry that understands and responds to customer' needs 5. to be recognised as a sector that makes major contribution to the Welsh economy, the environment and to communities. Organisation The Partnership comprises a full time manager, with support from the Welsh Assembly Government and Forestry Commission resources, and a Leadership Group. The role of the manager is to manage the day to day activities of The Partnership, and to facilitate the activities of the Leadership Group. Leadership Group The overall role of the Leadership Group is to direct the activities of The Partnership. It does this by: 1. determining the strategic priorities for action 2. initiating, planning and delivering specific programmes and tasks to meet its goals 3. delivering business development support through its initiatives; - Woodknowledge Wales (?Knowledge Hub group?) - Woodsource Wales (?Marketing group?) 4. informing and influencing the National Assembly, through the Confederation of Forest Industries. Woodknowledge Wales (WKW) WKW leads on industry innovation, research and development and has three operational aims: - To act as an information source for Welsh wood using businesses, and to assist in the transfer for knowledge into those businesses especially from pan-European projects and research organisations. - To assist in the development of new products and processes which make the industry in Wales more competitive and where appropriate, initiate prototype testing and proof of concept. - To promote research and development within wood through business initiatives either individually or jointly. Woodsource Wales (WSW) WSW leads on market development and has three operational aims: - To provide businesses with opportunities for business development. - To provide support for increased market exposure of businesses? products and services. - To target procurement teams, individuals and contacts by raising the profile of the timber as a sustainable material.
